Streamlining Spa Operations: A User-Centric POS Design

Overview
GoWabi is an online platform that facilitates booking beauty treatments with discounts and deals. In this project, GoWabi and I collaborated to integrate multiple features aimed to improve the existing functionality of their tablet based POS application.

My role
As a sole designer, I delivered 4 requested features. In the process, I’ve created user flows, wireframes for quick communication with the team and finally deliver high fidelity designs with prototypes for user testing.

Goals & Users
The goal is to deliver validated design for 4 features to create better experience for beauty salon’s staff when using GoWabi’s POS application. While minimising design changes.

Results & Impact
The design prototypes have been tested with users (beauty salon staffs) received no blockers in performing given tasks. The design is then handed off to Product manager at Gowabi for further development.

Features and the challenges

Course setup & Clarify confusing feature with design
While course setup uses similar design as existing service setup, I redesigned the page layout and the "Display on Gowabi platform" function. This highlights the benefits of showcasing services on Gowabi, reaching a broader audience for users while expanding Gowabi's service offerings - a mutual benefits to both parties.

Checking out course & handling multiple scenarios in a single flow
The challenge is the amount of paths the system have to handle when a course is selected for check out. Mapping out user flows using quick low fidelity designs really helped layout all possible paths and edge cases. Allowing me to communicate ideas and solutions to GoWabi team.

Example - When a course (Feet massage 10 times) is selected. The system must handle:

  • Detect existing course on customer’s profile

  • Deduct course quantity for a customer without charging the customer

  • Allow customer to buy new course and use it today

  • Allow customer to buy new course and use it other day

  • Allow customer to buy new course. Despite owning the same course

Commission for specific staff redesign
In beauty salons and spas, it is normal to have staffs with higher skill who will get higher commission rate. I have enhanced the existing feature of commission tracking to be able to track staff specific commission.

The challenge lies in the interaction within the function. Since it combination of staff and their commission rate for a service is endless.

Channel specific price list
While “shop price” is the main usage. Spas & salons may have other sales channel with different price list. Therefore, the specific price list is added to all course service setup. Along with ability to choose price list in main check out page.

Customer profile and layout enhancement
The customer profile layout had minor changes to support the new addition of customer purchase history and course management.

Deliverables

Final Handoffs and Learnings

Before diving into the final handoff, the design flow underwent user testing by Gowabi's PM. The feedbacks were then reflected in the final design and handoffs.

This project taught rapid product analysis and designing features impacting multiple app areas, while addressing potential edge cases.

With the complete documentation and user-approved designs, the development team is ready to build these user-friendly experience features for Gowabi POS sytem.
